ZeroInk's primary focus is developing information retrieval software, and user interfaces to access the information that is retrieved.
|
 |
Our goal is to aggregate and refine existing information sources. It's no secret the Internet grows exponentially each day, why restate the already overstated?
Rather than creating another venue for a particular type of information, we're concentrating our effort on 1) the retrieving of information, 2) providing a way to access the compiled information.
In order to further enhance the overall process, we're also very interested in things like: document scoring and indexing, user feedback mechanisms, query 'relevancy' and other related techniques.
|
By doing this, we see a number of advantages:
- Broad Application Base
- Software is created with a more generalized purpose in mind which allows us to re-apply it to a variety of industries and types of information.
- Improvements Benefit the Whole
- By centralizing the development effort, each new application of our software can ultimately benefit everyone, regardless of the industry or information need.
As content available on the Internet becomes more standardized (i.e. XML), precise automated retrieval will become more accessible to everyone. However, until standards are commonplace, the task of creating and maintaining an "information flow" is a tedious process requiring skilled personnel.

- I came here for jobs, is this good for me?
- Most definitely! We're very convinced that there are many facets to explore with the employment industry. This gives our development effort room to grow, to expand the technology in many many ways.
To illustrate this point, observe the animation to the right:
Imagine yourself as the sphere in the center of the picture. The rotating gizmos are robots or crawlers. The cubes on the outside represent the sources or types of information. Each robot is looking for a specific type of information. Though the robots have different goals, they share a number of things in common with each other. The end result is a stream of information to you, the user, which is retrieved by the robots from the various sources.
Indeed, your web browser gives you the ability to find information "under one roof" (the Web), but finding it or building connections between different sources is usually left up to you.
We insist that it's time for this task to be done in a more automated and precise fashion, by software instead of people.
With each robot supplementing one another with information and drawing connections between the different sets of information, there are some exciting possibilities.

Some example sets:
- Get local school information and the up-to-minute weather for the city of the job listing you're viewing.
- Jobs
- Local Schools
- Weather
- In addition to school information and the weather, is the position at a publicly traded company? .. are they in the news? .. getting attention on the Web? .. what do the major search engines know about them?
- Jobs
- Local Schools
- Weather
- Stock History
- Newspaper/Magazine/Web Articles
- Search Engine Results
- Price out that electronics item and find your local warranty repair shop.
- Product Database
- Electronics
- Local Repair Shops
In some of these examples, the information added isn't necessarily critical - but a simple example can still pave the way for bigger and better things.
Can you think of some other ways to apply our technology? Excellent! As a job-seeker or recruiter, not only can you help us tailor this site to your needs, but also shape the future of the technology.
